DARLO BAR
Completed 2007

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Darlo Bar, a quirky 60’s Retro-style bar in Darlinghurst, sits within the Royal Sovereign Hotel. With the brief to create a courtyard-bar on the 1st floor within a strong existing 60’s bar style, the idea of a styled ‘garden room’ was realized. Major structural support was required at basement level in order to remove internal walls and expose perimeter wall areas to the outside. Deep within the structure of the existing Hotel, this space is fully lined with acoustic perforated, lapped aluminium panels, coloured to give the abstract impression of a garden at dusk. A flock of white dove lights adorn the inside bar ceiling, adding a quirky twist, while a collection of second-hand 60s steel garden furniture all painted white complements the outdoor room.
