QT MUSEUM HOTEL WELLINGTON - GALLERY 4
Completed 2018

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Indyk Architects commenced Gallery 4 interior fit out and planning after the completion of the Hot Sauce bar and restaurant in QTW.

The 25 guest rooms were detailed with bespoke  joinery  to rooms and bathrooms, as previous works on the lower level harbour rooms, also created by Indyk Architects. These rooms had three unique colour palettes for finishes. This created the background setting for the mural artists works.

Mark Amery –Art curator for Gallery 4 describes the process below:

"Nau mai Haere mai. Welcome to a bold creative engagement with Aotearoa New Zealand’s artistic community. The art in the rooms and corridors of Level Four - was specially commissioned for QT Wellington during the level’s construction in 2018. It is an unprecedented collaboration in New Zealand between artists, a hotel and its designers.

A QT open competition ‘Your Art. Our Rooms’ called for submissions to create work for the bedhead walls of the hotel, with plans and colour and pattern palettes for the rooms provided.

From almost 300 entries a judging panel comprising of artist D-Side, myself ,QT staff, and Indyk architects, created a shortlist of 25 artists.

Artist D-Side’s Room 440, was completed ahead of the commissioning process as initial inspiration - with its brilliant and witty take on the concept of a ‘museum hotel’.

19 artists completed 25 rooms over the spring of 2018. A further five from the shortlist designed or contributed work for the corridor, alongside newly commissioned lightworks by Angus Muir and glass work by the Crystal Chain Gang."
